Dr Khalid Ahmed
FRACS, MSC Surgery, MBChB
Dr Khalid Ahmed is an Australian educated and trained specialist general surgeon with experience in reflux, hiatus hernia, and weight loss surgery.
Khalid graduated from Iraq, College of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency in Iraq. After this, he left Iraq for the UAE to work in a tertiary plastic and burns unit in Abu Dhabi in 2006. Later in 2006, he travelled to the UK, where he was attached to an orthopaedic and trauma unit in Taunton for six months, during which time he acquired GMC registration.
In 2007, Khalid migrated to Australia, where he worked for six years as a junior general surgical registrar in multiple subspecialties, including urology, plastics, ENT, and trauma.
In 2013, after finishing his MSc in General Surgery and Transplant Training from the University of Sydney, he enrolled in the Advanced General Surgical Training Program from RACS in Western Sydney hospitals, including Westmead, Nepean, Blacktown, and Auburn, completing his training in 2019. During this period, Khalid also undertook subspecialty rotations in advanced ENT, vascular, urology, acute surgical unit, and rural surgery.
In 2020, Khalid worked as a senior registrar in a busy complex colorectal unit at Liverpool Hospital, gaining exposure to complex laparoscopic colorectal and pelvic exenteration surgery.
In 2021, he undertook a fellowship in an upper GI unit at Wollongong Public Hospital and Wollongong Private Hospital, where he was involved in gastric, oesophageal, and pancreatic surgeries. During this time, he was also involved in bariatric surgery at Wollongong Private Hospital.
In 2022, Khalid gained extensive bariatric experience with Sydney Metabolic Surgery and The Life Weight Loss Centre, performing a wide range of sleeve, bi-partition bypass, and transit bi-partition bypass surgeries.
That same year, he received his Fellowship in General Surgery from RACS, as well as GESA certification for gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
